Quality Management System and Accreditation:
For the industry and the consumer, testing for quality characteristics of food products is expensive. Therefore the World Trade Organisation (WTO) promotes the harmonization of testing standards together with the International Standardization Organisation (ISO). The goal is th overcome national standards and to replace them by international accepted standards. The consequence is, that a test performed once for a specific product and lot has to be accepted in all other countries which are member of the WTO.
ISO 17025 is such a standard. It replaces in 2002 the Euronorm EN 45001
Both norms are fairly similar. Important points of both are:
- Documentation of all components used in a test
- Validation of the tests.
- Testing reports which describe the applied methods and their performances
and very important:
- Laboratories are accredited for certain methods NOT as a whole. A laboratory may perform other methods as well, but those are not necessarely in the accredited scope.
How to compare laboratories:
- Is the laboratory accredited?
- Is it accredited for the method I require?
- Does the test report contain information about the performance of the test?
- Does the laboratory provide the validation data?
- Can I interprete these validation data?
- Can I compare them with the validation data of an other laboratory?
- Are the differencies important for my purpose?
How to compare testing results:
- Is my sample statistical representative?
- Are th differencies statistically significant considering the validation data of the two tests?
- Where there some other factors like different storage or possible contamination of one of the two samples?
- Was the test repeated with an independent sample?
What do you get from Biosmart GmbH:
- Testing report with the description of the system and brief characterization of the performance of the test
- Clear statement of the validation status of the methods
- Validation data which are in accordance to ISO/IEC 17025
- Biosmart GmbH is accredited for qualitative and quantitative PCR testing
